Lighting choices for a photo shoot can greatly affect both the mood of the image and physical look of the model. While I love natural light sources for their soft and flattering illumination, artificial light offers dramatic effects that change an image entirely. Options I employ include high-key, low-key, strobe with natural light as fill, strobe with ambient light, and strobe only.
After viewing my portfolio hopefully you like it, though it may be hard for you to articulate why. Eventually in the development of any creative pursuit a person will find their own style–their own voice. This is true for artists, musicians, writers, and certainly myself. Discovering one’s voice is not unlike learning a musical instrument.
Shooting on location is one of my favorite things to do and a great way for a client to make an individualized statement. While some location shooting is universally desired by many clients, i.e. beach location photography, I always encourage clients to choose a setting or theme unique to their own personality.
Choosing your wardrobe is the most important aspect of your glamour session preparation. Finding outfits that help you look and feel sexy will boost your confidence and get you psyched for the shoot. Because this process is so integral to the success of your images, plan accordingly and your efforts will be rewarded.
Depending on how experienced a traveler you are, some of this information may be more useful than others. That said, it’s not meant to be an all-inclusive list, but rather some helpful insight I’ve gleaned from my lifelong travel experiences. After reading this please feel free to email me any of your own personal tips so that I can share them with others.
Here are some random tips I’ve learned along the way. They’re arranged in no particular order, but each is important to know.
One of the most important things to master with travel is the art of packing light. There’s a fine balance between packing all you want verses hauling heavy luggage through airports, trains, cars, and hotels. I can’t tell you what to leave behind because that’s a personal decision, but what follows are items I feel you must include.
One of Europe’s oldest and photogenic capitals, Lisbon features brilliant colors, fabulous shopping and friendly locals. Perhaps the best way to get to know the city is from wandering the alleyways, cobbled streets and hidden squares of its historic Alfama district. Other iconic shooting locations may include Belém Tower, Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, Castelo de São Jorge, Rossio Square and Praça do Comércio in Baixa.
